Kayla discovered Fathers’ UpLift while researching fellowships that focus on underserved communities, drawn to the organization’s mission to uplift fathers confronting emotional, economic, and societal obstacles. She deeply resonates with their values, particularly their commitment to community involvement and empowerment, and is dedicated to advocating for mental health care for vulnerable populations.

With strong communication skills and a deep sense of empathy, Kayla is well-equipped to be a compassionate and effective therapist. Her experience in community organizing, facilitating group therapy, and conducting biopsychosocial assessments has provided her with the tools to connect meaningfully with others. Kayla is also innovative in problem-solving, approaching challenges with creativity and care.

As a future therapist, Kayla’s main objective is to create safe, nonjudgmental spaces where clients feel heard and validated. She aims to empower individuals with tools and methods they can use long after their sessions, fostering resilience and healthier relationships that lead to lasting change.

Her journey into therapy was inspired by her upbringing in a culturally diverse environment, where she witnessed the effects of mental health struggles within her community. Understanding the stigma surrounding mental health advocacy ignited her passion for supporting those who need help the most. This motivation drives her to bridge the gap for marginalized communities, allowing individuals to find their voices and strength.

One accomplishment she is particularly proud of is pursuing her MSW, which has been an incredibly rewarding journey tailored to her commitment to mental health awareness.

In her commitment to community service, Kayla previously volunteered at the Belafonte Tacolcy Center in Miami, an experience that allowed her to give back effectively. Participating in youth mentorship programs, she provided social and emotional learning to at-risk youth, contributing to a supportive environment where they could grow and thrive.
